Hello,
Faith seems to be one of those biggies for me recently, and I suspect I’m not the only one who has had to draw deep
Here’s today’s nougat – July 8
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith why are you so afraid?” Mt 8:25-26a
Yes, they had a moment of fear. Yes, the fear threatened to overcome all else. They were not swimmers. The tempest raged. Death was very, very eminent. Like Jonah, Jesus (their only salvation), slept unconcernedly in the back of the boat, not disturbed by the rocking and roiling. They could have given up, after all – the waves had SWEPT OVER THE BOAT!!! (v24)
Here’s the thing – in the midst of their fear. They turned to Jesus. They knew they could not fix things themselves. They knew that they were NOT their own salvation. They acknowledged the Source as their last and ONLY resort.
Having Little Faith means we turn to the Rock when the sand and the world is sinking all around. Having Little Faith means Jesus is our last and only resort. Having Little Faith may not be as much as the other person’s; but it still gets us out of harm’s way.
Jesus’ faith was outright confidence in Himself and in God’s follow through – HE commanded the waves and it was so. The disciple’s faith was in Jesus’ ability to do something (anything, provided they did not drown).
For, as Nicole C. Mullen reminds us,
“When [we] call on Jesus, All things are possible
[We] can mount on wings like eagles and soar
When [we] call on Jesus, mountains are gonna fall
‘Cause He’ll move heaven and earth to come rescue [us] when [we] call …”
