Nougat 7

Apologies for the delayed nougats, I hope to get back on a fairly consistent track soon.

Have you like me nurtured a conscious and consistent yearning to hear from God? What do you do about the yearning? Over the next few days we will explore how God speaks to us, as well as some characteristics of Jesus. Today’s Holy Nougat sets the frame.

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Hearing from God 1

God, our God – Who never changes, despite changing us – the Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient God, desires to speak with us.

How does that impact us today? Does it inspire awe, fear, confidence, arrogance, or complacency? I believe it might even raise a hallelujah.

To think that the Creator speaks to the creation and has done so since time immemorial. But back in the day, God spoke through the Word that often originated from prophetic words. That may sound round about and distant, but let’s remember – there was a wedge.

We realize that in The Garden, God often met with Adam and Eve (see Genesis 3:8). And, by choosing to hear the serpent’s suggestion, the wedge was created between God and humanity, and humanity with the rest of creation and humanity. The very same wedge resulted in the muting of the desire to hear from God. But God still wanted to speak with humanity. So God spoke directly to prophets to connect with the people. And though we know that the wedge is sin, we recognize that it began with an implanted thought accepted by our spirits.

Hearing from God thus requires a desire and an openness to hear and the protection of our thought life. Let’s be mindful about what is implanted in our hearts, and try to measure the thoughts against the Truths of God’s Word.
