“Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:8 NRSV
Isn’t it funny that we all seek happiness; but that which is pleasant doesn’t always fit in the grid called happiness? Ironically, many times that which is pleasing to us or makes us happy may be at the expense of another.
So where does that lead us? Perhaps to the J-O-Y Principle; putting Jesus first, then others then ourselves. Not so easy, for them the spotlight shifts to another’s needs/desires/wants before our own. And some folks choose to take advantage of our supposed weakness yes. Just ask Jesus – he was asked to make priority seating in heaven for TWO of his disciples!!!
However, in the midst of troubling times, pleasant thoughts may restore our souls and keep us out of trouble.
May our joy be complete as we focus on the pleasant things.
