Hi

Recently I spoke with a cousin, who noted that the quality of the water has affected her hair. Who’d have thunk!!! She’s ready to consider using bottled water which is filtered, to ensure that her hair doesn’t suffer too much long term damage. What if we needed to do something similar with our thought life? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians 4:8 NRSV

I’ve proven it for myself. Whatever I fix my mind on affects my mood and attitude. It could be a popular song; something someone said in passing or intentionally; or even a memory … when I begin to rehearse it, my disposition aligns with that which I have fed it. And, in some instances where I accepted failure even before facing a ‘test’, failure was the outcome. I have since concluded that I am responsible for my thoughts.

Yes indeed

Subsequently, I try to keep them pure. Free from corrupting influences that may poison my mind or incline my actions in the wrong direction. Choosing to focus on the pure sometimes means restricting access to negative people. You know the type – who pull your day down no matter what and can never see the bright side in life. I may spend time with them; but not for too long, lest they help me forget to focus.

But most of all, I have asked God for a song on my heart. I try to ensure that the song filters my thoughts like the purifying agent keeps the bottled water fresh and safe for my cousin’s hair. Sometimes I give voice to the song, sometimes not. But I really work on keeping focused Godward, whether through song or prayer.

How do you keep your thoughts pure? By reading God’s Word or prayer? With song and laughter? Or with loads of love sprinkled with praise?

All of the above?

Whatever it is, with God as the focal point, it is well. I pray us all into pure thoughts.

God bless you

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
