What would you say if You knew that God is listening to you? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat

“The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭33‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God Will Do

Although this verse precedes Moses’ request to experience God’s glory, I would like to reflect on it now. God’s comment to Moses speaks to a depth of loving trust that God had towards Moses. For, even before Moses voiced his request, God declared affirmation and support.

Yes, God already knew Moses’ request. And despite knowing that Moses wanted to see God’s glory, God was willing to oblige. Yet, I when think of what the naysayers’ comments would be, had they heard the conversation, it floors me that Moses spoke to God so freely.

That’s the lesson for us siblings. We can’t stop to entertain other’s opinions on what to say when we approach God. It is our conversation and we therefore need to be honest enough to ask God for God’s presence and protection. A word from Jesus to the disciples strengthens this thought. In Luke 11; having taught the disciples how to pray, Jesus went a bit further. He noted that inasmuch as fathers know how to shower their children with good gifts; God is ready and raring to gift us God’s Spirit if we ask.

If God’s ‘yes’ to Moses was based on God’s foreknowledge of Moses’ request; then it suggests that when our ask is God-related, the answer is likelier to be a yes. And that aligns with Jesus’ other saying, Seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness, and God will provide all the other things (see Matthew 6:33).

Moses wanted the assurance that God would accompany him through the Exodus Journey. He didn’t ask for the trials or the enemies to disappear. He sought God’s presence through a visible, tangible encounter with God. And it was granted, both through the vision of God’s glory and the pillar of fire that accompanied them on their journey.

What about our asks? Yes, God knows our asks. It’s not worthwhile to ask for one thing, hoping for another. That’s deceiving even our own selves. But let’s be assured that experiencing God’s glory or God’s Spirit at work in our lives can positively impact other aspects of our lives.

God will do for us what we ask, the question is – what is our ask?
