I trust you are well. It feels as if I’ve been away from you forever!
Have you ever indulged in the ‘if I had all the money in the world I’d …’ conversation before? Or perhaps even created a bucket list of must do’s? Or perhaps drafted your life plan with a bit more detail than ‘when I grow up, I want to be …?’ What would you do if God were to offer you that life-defining shift today? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”” 2 Chronicles 1:7 NLT
There have been times when I prayed God would ask that question. For I Knew exactly what I wanted and all the details connected to it. Most of those times, Wisdom would NOT have been my final answer. Sometimes however, I felt the need to ask for faith or even for wisdom to keep me going. You know, like the ‘little oil in my lamp’ song – ‘keep me going till the break of day’.
From time to time however, I sense that this is an ongoing question. Framed by a doting Suitor to the Beloved! For that’s actually who we are – Christ’s intended! Oh yes we are! And the Word assures us, that when we become One with Christ and Christ’s Word becomes one within us; our petitions are already yes and amen in Him! (John 15:7).
For many of us, we discount this promise, especially if it seems our prayers aren’t answered Yes immediately. When we get a no though, do we question the no, the request or actually have a one on one with God about it? For if we do, then we might be empowered to be honest in answering the (next) time God asks us what it is that we desire. Before answering, it might be helpful to examine Solomon’s response and the motives behind his answer. Read it as soon as you can, for I think I can hear God whispering to each of us right now, “I am listening. Ask what you will …”
