Can you imagine being as deeply distressed? Depression is real. The grief process takes a very serious toll on persons. How do we treat with those battling severe depression? Are we ready to even recognize the symptoms?
It can be a strain on the caregiver. And yet, the request was made. Sometimes, as friends, counselors or Christians; that’s all that’s being asked of us. To keep watch with. Are we prepared for such a task? Have we counted the emotional, mental and social costs? And what if the request is an unspoken plea? Are we present enough to hear the heart’s request and respond accordingly? With suicide being so prevalent among our youth especially – the one group which unfailingly insists that they’re not listened to or understood – could it be that we need to begin listening. And keeping watch.
Lord help us become our children’s and each other’s keeper.
