Hello
Have you ever encountered exceptionally brilliant or charismatic persons (or are you one such yourself)? Carefully imbibe today’s Holy Nougat It may have intrinsic value for you.
“But Peter pulled him up and said, “Stand up! I’m a human being just like you!””
Acts of the Apostles 10:26 NLT
In a time when adulation is rife, choosing to be human is hard.
There are some televangelists who have caught my attention. Some for their message, some for their charisma. I am caught in a somewhat weird space – technically, those are colleagues in ministry although we move in different circles. Operatively, while the substance of their sermons may be potent; I’m very careful that I don’t confuse the messenger with The Saviour. It isn’t always easy. For, in that euphoric moment, it becomes simple to assume that the Word has become flesh once again.
Paul says, ‘Follow as I follow’. Is that what happens when we ‘follow’ some of these preachers. And when they/(we) recognize that converts are moving toward idolatry, the correct response is NOT about encouraging such for one’s financial or egotistical glory! We MUST ensure that our lives point Christ-ward.
Let us be discerning about whom we choose to follow spiritually.
Application to our individual public lives? Simple.
Just as Peter insisted that the former paralytic recognize Peter as human only, so it is that we must overcome the urge for receiving praise that is God’s. Remember, we are human, not God!
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
