Blessings and joy to you.
What are some advent traditions in your home town? Are they still very popular? How about new traditions?
Here’s today’s nougat
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. Colossians 1:9
Prayer seems far removed from the Advent/Christmas story. And, to some extent, it could be.
There’s Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Zecharias, John, filled rooms, possible animals, the manger, the innkeeper, Shepherds, and angels. Some of us might even include whose men, a donkey and the Star. No reference to prayer there…
But if prayer is that heartfelt conversation from us humans to God, I suspect that Zecharias, Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary may have uttered a few along the way. And, I believe they craved prayers even knowing that God specially chose them for those special blessings.
Think about it: an old couple, past their dotage; and a young PREGNANT unmarried couple. Yup, they needed prayers alright!
So who are the “Unlikelies” in our context? What distinguishes them to suggest that they are ‘… alright, they don’t need our prayers’? Moreover, how has God convicted us to act, to intervene, to be the difference in prayer; in order that there is ‘room at the inn’ for the fulfilment of God’s divine drama?
Have we been caught praying for someone in need?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
