Hello
Please meditate on today’s Holy Nougat for a bit before advancing to the reflection.
“He motioned for them to quiet down and told them how the Lord had led him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers what happened,” he said. And then he went to another place.” Acts of the Apostles 12:17 NLT
Those words and actions sound so much like Jesus the morning of His resurrection – Tell Peter and the other disciples what (rather Who) you have seen. I must go back to my Father’s.
It is as though they ensured there is a reliable witness; and then they move on to ‘more pressing’ matters.
Unfortunately, far too many of us as Christ followers are not bothered by the little things. We might have stopped a while, performed a few miracles to prove ourselves and been delayed by the little non critical details. On the other hand, several of us would have deemed the Mary’s or the interceding church as somewhat unimportant and we’d have gone straight on to perform our ‘important’ tasks.
Either approach dishonors God’s priorities. And perhaps it is not so much the little things which don’t affect us, as it is our ability to prioritize and manage God’s time. Both tasks were important. They were to be completed in a particular order – reassure the distressed; attend to other business. (In the case of Lazarus, the order is priority was different; so let’s not confirm a pattern here). I suspect it comes with KNOWING the heart of God and that comes with Quality Time in and with the Word.
May our hearts be quickened in God’s abiding presence and intimacy be our natural course of being.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
