Blessings saints

How are you? Have you been burdened to the point of intercession (serious prayer on behalf of) for another? Could it be that you have been gifted with the task of being someone’s amour bearer? Hmmmn

Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™

And his armour bearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart. 1 Samuel 14:7 KJV

What was the role an armour bearer? This person was not so much a body guard as one who was versed in the purpose of each weapon required for warfare, such that she/he was able to supply the correct weapon to their commander in battle. Often they were depicted as the one who carried the warrior’s shield or spear in battle.

We’re told that one biblical leader asked his armor bearer to spare him the dishonor of dying from the enemy’s hand, so he was to kill him. We may also recall that David served as armor bearer to King Saul for a season while God prepared David to serve as the next King. In this instance, Jonathan’s armour bearer was not only carrying the weapons, but might also have had some responsibility for thinking strategy with the young prince. That act of bravery alongside Jonathan cost the Philistines the day’s battle.

How might we serve as armour bearers today? Firstly, we ought to be versed on spiritual weaponry, such that we are an asset to whom we are assigned. This is important as we need to be aware of when we ought to apply Peace, Truth, Righteousness, Faith, Salvation or the Word to a spiritually charged context. Part of this comes through the watchfulness of Prayer, and of course from also having tested each weapon over time.

Further, as an armour bearer, we are called to cover the one who has been assigned to us in prayer. This requires us being spiritually connected to such person(s), so much so that we may anticipate a prayer request in the spiritual realm before it is placed in the natural. This is serious business, for it means that we are not only establishing a prayer life for our own needs, but that we are interceding for this person on a regular basis.

It may also require us to be tacticians, that is, versed in Warfare tactics such that we might advise the one who has been assigned to us when to advance or retreat in battle. Or we might determine our total devotion, like Jonathan’s armour bearer.

Has the Lord assigned us to someone as their armour bearer? If so, have we been lifting that person before God’s throne in prayer? Have we been practising strategy, and increasing our knowledge in spiritual weaponry? Are we positioned to defend, support or advise the one who has been assigned to us on God’s plan for the battle(s) they face?

Ministers/pastors are not the only ones who require armour bearers. For this is not so much about carrying a Bible or serving an unofficial (public) bodyguard. This is about ensuring the spiritual welfare of another. Could it be time to ask the Lord to train is to be armour bearers, and in turn to assign someone to us? Perhaps that’s one way to win the little skirmishes with the enemy of our souls.

Thanks for joining us in this Divine feast.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
