Hi

I agree. Worship is not a type of song nor a job description.

It IS a heart posture.

For worship is usually unfiltered devotion to a subject which is so ‘loved’ that it is ascribed special acts of love and favor. In some cases, the subject is given special status which distinguishes the subject from other similar subjects. That’s why Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords; or the Conquering Lion. So He’s not any ordinary King; no common Lord. And definitely not a washed up lion!

More critically, Worship is subjective as each person venerates the source of their devotion for different reasons. Usually it involves love and joy, but the backstory may be different. When Jehovah God (YHWH) is the subject of our worship, we sometimes misplace our devotion. I suspect it has to do with God not being as materially physically ‘visible’ as other (poor) substitutes. Thus we misplace our devotion and praise. When we consider today’s Holy Nougat, we find that worship is substantial. It is involved.

“Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.” Psalms 100:2 NLT

In the KJV (King James Version), the phrase isn’t actually Worship the Lord with gladness; rather it is Serve. Isn’t that interesting? That our service to God is actually the same as our worship?! So if I serve God with gladness, whatever I do unto God is a joy (perhaps even an honor) – not a chore.

For it is an act of worship.

Approaching God’s presence in song is thus both literal and figurative. For we worship in literal song (joyful noise) as well as sing praises (until others are fed up of hearing our incessant ‘noise’ about the subject of our devotion.

I guess there is only one closing question about the matter then – How joyful is our worship of Almighty God?

Selah

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
