Bless the Lord my dear
And may your day be blessed.
Here’s today’s nougat
Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth. James 3:5
It’s usually the little things that we take for granted, which lands us smack dab in space we’d rather avoid, isn’t it? We are warned about boasting, idle jests, lying, cursing and responding in anger, yet we figure ‘just this time …’ and just is often once too many.
What James does not make overly clear is that our tongues do NOT have minds of their own. No. Nope. Non. Nyiet. Nada. (You got the picture)! The catch is that once speech is learned, much of it seems to be automatic. We hardly put much thought in it; unless we’re learning a new language.
So perhaps to overcome the preconditioned responses (“the devil made me do it”), we should consider living Christ-like as a new spiritual language which reflects the new life. Wow! That could be scary stuff.
But then, aren’t we encouraged to … put off … our old selves (of selfishness and corruption) and in turn out on Christ (who is Love, Peace, Compassion and Faith). {Eph. 5:22-24}? And that is a whole new language of learning for our tongues.
Remember tongue twisters and ‘Singing in the rain’? They began kinda uncomfortable, looked weird on others, but made our day SO much fun! This would be a similar experience.
SO
Before engaging tongue –
Connect brain;
Confer with Christ;
Carry thought to future.
If seeming to have positive impact; Engage tongue.
Repeat as needed
Have an awesomely engaged day!
