I trust that your burden-swap went well and so, you are in excellent spirits. If not, please revisit yesterday’s Nougat and practice the burden-swap.
I awakened just before I began today’s reflection, singing O Holy Night’s second verse, and so I knew it was time to revisit our preparations for Christ himself.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougatâ„¢
so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28 NLT
Jesus’s truly is the reason for the season. Not to celebrate someone else’s holiday, but as a reminder that God loves us enough to offer us the BEST “Out” possible – in fact a permanent post-sin “out” – the kind which removes many temptations when we think about disappointing him.
If, this season, we are stuck in the commercial gift-giving and the baby rut, and not focused on the Sacrifice, the ultimate Gift; we’ve missed the point of the Season. And, if we remain focused on the Past, without looking toward the Future, then we miss a very significant element of the season.
For, the Season is packed with Purpose: Christ Jesus, (the Anointed One, Son of God, Messiah), became human
… so we might have an example of True Holiness (he was set apart from sin, being fully God, though wholly human),
… to pattern How to Truly Live (the Ten Commandments notwithstanding),
… to be offered as a Substitute for us (revisit the scapegoat clause in Leviticus 16, and the literal substitution of Jesus for Barabbas in Matthew 27/John 18)
… AND to return to take us with him (see John 14) to bask in God’s glory.
And that’s the Coming which is The Ultimate Gift we anticipate. Some say Maranatha – Come Lord Jesus. Others, unaware of what the phrase means, have been ushering him in, eagerly anticipating His return.
Yes, Jesus’s is the reason for this Season, and all seasons. Would you share the Good News of his imminent return with someone else?
