Nougat 7

During my early childhood, there was a phrase that intrigued me, ‘taste and buy’. It is based on the premise that once one has sampled a product (usually food or drink), it’s nigh on impossible to avoid purchasing. Many argue that that is poor business strategy; yet one sees it in different marketplaces – test drive a car; sample the effect of make-up; attend a book launch/signing; try the dress or jewelry… – and it works. Sometimes I think that God’s Spirit ensures that we have a glimpse of what Heaven could be like. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Ephesians‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Once again, we see a reference being made for asking that God’s Spirit is manifested upon individuals. This time it is Paul who makes the suggestion. You see, my dear siblings in Christ, just as we ‘seek’ the Lord (Who is NOT lost) with all our hearts (Jeremiah 29); so it is that we request God’s Spirit to be manifested actively in our lives. That suggests that we can lives our entire lives as believers and never tap into the blessings of God anointing! And the fullness of spiritual gifts are likelier to be experienced WHEN we ask.

So what do we ask for from God, and what are the benefits?

Paul proposes that Wisdom and Revelation deepens our intimacy with God. If that’s the case, and the ultimate God-experience is in Heaven, then – should we so desire (request of God) – receiving that special anointing of Wisdom and Revelation will give us a taste of Heaven before we get there. For those moments of direct communion …

The additional blessing of seeking God’s Spirit, in particular in the gifts of Wisdom and Revelation, is that God’s Spirit customizes the gifts to our lives; prepackages them with a user-friendly manual; Eternal Warranty and no expiry date. Now that’s an un-put-downable deal!

Please please do not hear me commodifying God or the Spirit of God. This is about our relationship and helping us ‘see’ the benefit of seeking God’s Spirit to be active in us. Many of us seek gurus to guide us in different situations and we could simply consult with God’s Spirit. We may find that with Revelation and Wisdom, our decision-making skills are fine tuned, affording is even more time to spend WITH God.
