The year my grandmother died, I had an eye-opening experience. After the burial, I got home to a crowd waiting to eat, drink and commiserate. Needless to say, I was not amused. It was partly grief, partly ignorance of the tradition, but it was also about my not wishing to serve particular persons. Good thing our God is a second, third and until-we-die chance God; for, based on Today’s Holy Nougat as a proclaiming believer, my witness was iffy.
“Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.” John 12:26 NLT
Did you notice that – Service directs Followship (aka discipleship)? It’s not the other way around. It makes a lot of sense when we think of Jesus’ call to His soon-to-be disciples – when you follow me, you will catch humans, not fish – or the response of the Samaritan woman after being convicted and redeemed by the Well.
But what does it mean for us?
Firstly I would suggest that it brings us into a clearer sense of God’s sovereignty. We serve One Who is Power itself. The Creator of all, Sovereign forever.? And we have been commissioned into service
I’d also venture to say, we seek to discern what it is that we are uniquely called to do and be. (So many of us are walking/serving outside of purpose and trying to figure out the real issue behind our discontent.) Within each of us who believe, there is a latent spiritual gift which ought to be pressed into service for the benefit of all creation. We are SO not called to warm pews to the detriment of the hungry and hurting. Nope. Not at all part of our calling.
More so, we serve with JOY (Joy also)

Yourself last
Not always easy; but if we all did it …
And we serve with Love And that’s Love the Fruit of the Spirit, as well as Love, Christ’s Divine persona. For when we serve with Love, we Know beyond a shadow of doubt that we are serving while following Jesus.
