Howdy do
Sometimes we find ourselves responding to situations and wishing we could have a do over. Or we make a decision and it impacts another person profoundly. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to think about how we live.
“Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.” Colossians 4:5 NLT
It is my view that we are under much public scrutiny. As believers, persons observe our responses to life’s curveballs to discern the Source oof our actions, as well as to see whether – in their opinion – our faith is genuine. Yes, there are those who will intentionally place every kind of temptation in our path, as if we were in the wilderness being tempted alongside Jesus. And it can be just as subtle.
Our aim is to preach by way of our lifestyle, without compromising our faith or our relationships. And it is doable. Even without speaking or seeming to be super critical of others. That requires wisdom. The kind that comes with experience in trusting God regardless.
Wisdom can sometimes be the business of discernment – identifying the most appropriate responses or carefully selecting the path to take. And yes, we don’t live for others; nevertheless our words and deeds bear witness to our faith in Christ.
So when last have you needed wisdom in decision making? Sometimes we don’t notice but there have been even one or two in the past, right? Having recalled even one of those, it might prove helpful to recall the method we used to determine our course of action. For some of us, we consulted friends and family or colleagues long before taking the issue to God. Then if things go awry, we wonder why. But if we had consulted God first, we would have arrived at the right conclusion, usually with less stress.
May we find the courage to declare our need for wisdom and discernment in decision making to God today and always.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
