Hello

The news about the explosion in Lebanon is heartbreaking. And as investigations continue, we pray for all whose lives and livelihood disappeared; and for the leadership – state and religious – who are now faced with the task of rebuilding during a health crisis.

Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” Matthew 28:18 AMP

Someone once said, ‘Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ And looking at how power is often used and abused around the world; I couldn’t argue with the hypothesis. Between political secret deals, bribery and corruption, autocratic/totalitarian rule, charges of racism sexual abuse and abuse of power, several world leaders have failed at being good leaders.

Hearing Jesus’ statement may prove problematic to persons who have survived poor leadership, as their experiences of power offers little scope for trust. Should we reflect on our own experiences of leadership, political, ecclesiastical (ie. church) or in the workplace; can we name positive examples of leaders? More critically, if we were to examine our own actions as leaders, how effective have we been in our leadership roles?

As leader, Jesus taught by example. He avoided micromanaging, encouraged individuality, maintained an open door policy, was a critical thinker, managed staff welfare, delegated, managed resources and had a succession plan. Some would question the soundness of his decisions – choosing to leave the task when He did – but even that indicates that He also knew when and how to move on to the next task. And it is the next task that allows us to see Him stand out as ultimate leader.

By His resurrection, Jesus Christ has proven to be Supreme Leader, as He has not only increased His jurisdiction; but He has also equipped each of us to be leaders wherever we are. He left behind a blueprint for positive leadership by showing that power doesn’t have to be abusive. And He invites each of us – you and me – to share that power.

By God’s Spirit, may others find us faithful.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
