Blessed Epiphany dears
Epiphany, the Showing or the Revelation, is often observed as the arrival of the Magi (wise men) or the baptism of Jesus. Today, while still focusing on Christ’s divine mortality, I invite us to consider another character in Jesus’ early years.
Here’s today’s nougat
… and she had been a widow even unto fourscore and four years), who departed not from the temple, worshipping with fastings and supplications night and day. And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks unto God, and spake of him to all them that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.Luke 2:37-38
84 years of total devotion to God!!! 84 years awaiting the fulfilment of a promise! 84 years to prove that her devotion was legitimate!
Anna, the prophetess, awaited the revelation of the Christ, knowing perhaps that her work was ended thereafter. How many times might she have lost hope, how many scoffers might she have had to deal with, but she continued in ministry; steadfast, awaiting the Showing. Obviously her being in the Temple was not coincidental. For our God doesn’t do chance encounters.
What has been happening in our 84 years? Have we been actively involved in ministry, believing God’s promise to each of us? Have we undergone the season of doubt or skepticism? Are we steadfast in our knowledge that we too, will receive the gift of the Showing? What are we doing while we wait?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
