Hi
It’s the 12th day of Christmas. Tomorrow those who follow the traditions of the Christian year will shift focus from the miracle of his birth and the prophesies surrounding him, to the impact of Jesus on humanity. Today,we conclude our reflections on Isaiah 9.6 by considering Jesus as the Prince of Peace.
Here’s today’s nougat
Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Mark 4.38
A common enough cry when we ourselves are facing disaster. But, as one writer once said, ‘why worry if Jesus is asleep? Obviously we should sleep too.’ For, it’s not that Jesus didn’t care, it’s that there was nothing to worry about. Peace: not the absence of the storm, but the ability to stay calm in the storm; knowing that He who sleeps/is utterly silent, can and will stop the raging round about us at the right time.
As Prince of Peace, Jesus insists that Truth prevails, for Truth births liberty, and liberty transcends (rises above) worry.
As Prince of Peace, sometimes Jesus has to quiet us, for our actions may be the storm in someone else’s situation.
As Prince of Peace, Jesus – whose name translates “God saves” – may heal our brokenness: saving us from despair, illnesses, acts of violence and other issues which get in the way of our well-being.
Do you really know the Prince of Peace?
If yes, help someone meet him today. If not, give him the opportunity to really impact your life today.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
