Here’s today’s nougat
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Luke 11.4
How was church this past weekend? I was present, getting in my groove about to close my eyes In surrender to the Holy Spirit; when I sensed a presence. You guessed it. There was Ms Late-Arredy, fully decked with her family, waiting for me to slide down the pew! I complied and was sure I was rewarded with a sarcastic “Thank you”.
Needless to say, I was not amused. So much so that I asked my friend to shift so that “Ms Lady” could get more room. And then we were told to greet our neighbor with particular words of encouragement. In my righteous indignation, my first choice was her.
And then in my thoughts I heard the phrase “… but deliver us from evil.” I had a moment’s pause. Could my actions and moreso, my thoughts be landing me in evil While at church? I had already begun to succumb to temptation.
Getting het up over sliding down the pews for someone who came to worship. Not necessary. And for that I almost missed the blessing God had in store for me.
Thankfully, I listened to the still, small voice. I left my high horse behind and was pleasantly surprised to discover that my Late-arredy church sister was there to worship God, just like me. And, by the time Rev called us to pray for each other, I was able to receive her prayers.
Sometimes, just sometimes, the evil that we’re delivered from comes from within. How was your weekend in church?
