Goooooooood moooorning to you today! I trust you are well.
To day’s Holy Nougat invites us to think about how we respond to God’s call.
“Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.” Matthew 4:22 TLV
Word
This verse is a duplicate of verse 20. In two invites, four men dropped EVERYTHING and simply followed Jesus the Christ.
Some days I wonder, did they know Who Jesus was; did they have an inkling of what they were getting Into? Were they dispirited by the fishing industry and looking for the first ‘out’ they received? Or had their spirits been prepared, so like Elisha they recognized the anointing that accompanied the invitation and just HAD to respond?
James and John were with their father. It was a family business. Yet they walked away without a backward glance. Andrew and Simon didn’t even hand their boat over to someone. No father or mother or other family is mentioned for them. They just walked away.
No grumbling
No mourning for the past
They simply up and obeyed Jesus!
What would it mean for any (all) of us to radically obey Jesus’ call today? Can we- could we walk away from the comfortable and familiar into an uncertain earthly future with Christ? Could we forfeit studies, family, friends, foes IN faith to follow Christ’s call?
Many of us have. And in the process find that we’re finding ourselves. Some of us have been asked to forfeit or forsake along the way or found ourselves forfeited and forsaken.
I believe I speak for us all who’ve been down that road to say, we never always understood why; but it’s been worth it. Would we do it again? Erm …
If Jesus were calling each of us again, how would we respond – immediately or eventually?
God bless you.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
