Earlier this year, I bumped into an educator who committed her life to making her children feel special. Her class started with the word ‘special’ at the end of the grade name, before it changed to being described by her name. The other classes only had numbers. That title, and the values she instilled in the children have them confidence beyond the normal levels – and a bit of arrogance too.

As adopted (some would say grafted) children in the Faith, do we feel special? Perhaps we should consider Today’s Holy Nougat™️

Romans‬ 8:‬29‬ NLT

“For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” ‭‭ ‭:‭ ‭

Chosen

Although we’re all beknowin to God, not everyone falls within the category of ‘God’s people’. In this context, God’s people refers to those who chose (or are chosen) to act on the revelation of God’s Gift of salvation in Y’shua. By choosing to believe in Y’shua’s divinity, we immediately gain access to God’s characteristics in Y’shua.

We become ‘special’, growing more and more like Him each day. And, by extension, we’re grafted into the family – God’s family. Of course, as family, there are various family trails that are visible to others. It is, as expected, the same for us as believers. Although He’s our elder brother, we ought to look and act more and more like Him.

Moreover, to mark our ‘chosen-ness’, we bear Christ’s name as our ‘family name’. (So though many of us may be discomfitted by the reference ‘Christian’, when it tells others that we’re believers in Christ, it really ought to be fine. But that’s for you and God to work out, not me). That’s what happened with the educator’s class. They moved from being ‘special’ to bearing her name, which still told the world that those children were her special chosen bunch.

How do we feel to carry that mark of ‘Sonship’, knowing that Christ is the firstborn in this family of God? Let’s not forget that as family members we have access to all the wealth of the family. Materially and socially, as well as spiritually. We also have the long-term benefits of life in Christ’s family … eternal life with God and Y’shua Himself. All because we choose to believe in Y’shua’s deity and accept Him as Saviour.

It’s so wonderful to realize that we’re part of God’s chosen family and that we have access to the benefits.

May all we seek be found in Christ
