Hi
Forgiveness is such an intense topic. But who knows, perhaps we will return to it once more.
Here’s today’s nougat
And forgive our transgressions as we forgive those who have transgressed against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver its from the evil one. Luke 11.4
This prayer is not an easy ‘words flow off our tongues, get back to business’ prayer is it? Not only are there layers, but some are uncomfortable. Why would we implore God, “Lead us not into temptation”? Isn’t that outside of God’s nature? It’s weird, because it could have been worded “Lead us away from temptation AND deliver us from evil”. But it doesn’t.
When we revise the punctuation; it could also read: “Lead us, NOT into temptation, BUT deliver us from evil” and in that case, we recognize our propensity for yielding to temptation … Lead us – NOT to our favorite place … Rather, deliver us – from the clutches of the enemy.
What temptation do we need to be led away from? What inclines us to go astray?
More importantly, are we ready to be led by God who desires the best for us; OR do we prefer the lure of leading ourselves, becoming the army of One?
Selah
