Nougat 31

Hello

One cannot help but see the parallels and significance of the Two Passovers when we know what we’re looking for. We continue to ruminate on this in today’s Holy Nougat

““These are your instructions for eating this meal: Be fully dressed, wear your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand. Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the Lord’s Passover … This is a day to remember. Each year, from generation to generation, you must celebrate it as a special festival to the Lord. This is a law for all time.” Exodus‬ ‭12:11, 14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Passover meal is not to be taken lightly. The weight of its significance to us believers is beyond measure. But before jumping to the meal, let us sit with the dress for a bit.

The Hebrews had been enslaved for 400+ years. And when the liberation drew nigh, the slave master resisted with EVERY ounce of his power. Plagues didn’t phase him as he kept reneging on his promises. I believe that the state of being fully dressed, shod and prepared for walking signified the Hebrews’ readiness for flight from Egypt. They were not staying a moment longer than necessary!

Not at all.

Many of us have gotten complacent in this world. We have gotten attached to this life, failing to see that ‘pharaoh’ refuses to release us to the Promised Land without great resistance. Being fully dressed (whether for warfare or in obedience) is indicative that we are ready to go! And each time we commemorate the Passover we remember, we live in this moment and in anticipation. Anamnesis; Epiclesis and Prolepsis – Remembrance, Transformation and Anticipation.

These are the all at once occurrences that mark our celebration of the Passover as followers of Christ. Interestingly, those Three movements take us Full Circle by pointing us gently back to recognizing the deity of Jesus – He Was; Is and Is To Come – YHWH, revealed to Moses at the Burning Unconsumed Bush and to us as Jesus our Messiah!

Can we see the connection? As often as we can, let us remember in anticipation …
