Today’s Holy Nougat continues the journey from Passover to Passion.
“Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month, each man is to take a lamb for his family one lamb for the household.” Exodus 12:3 TLV
“The next day, John sees Yeshua coming to him and says, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 TLV
A lamb for them then;
The Lamb for us now
A lamb (or its substitute) for a household then
The Lamb (unsubstituted) for ALL Households now
A lamb for protection from the angel of death
The Lamb has already conquered Death
The rituals associated with the Feast of the Passover pointed to the Ultimate Passover: Jesus securing each of us against eternal death. This was what John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin, saw and prophesied about at their first public encounter. It is what the crowd declared – but didn’t fully grasp – on the first Palm Sunday, when they waved the palm branches and clothing while shouting, ‘Hosanna’.
For Hosanna, which we often proclaim as a sound of praise, literally means ‘save us now’. That was the role of the Passover lamb then – to effect the salvation of the enslaved Hebrews. And this is what Jesus has done for us.
So whether we cry ‘Hosanna’, ‘Behold the Lamb of God’ or ‘Jesus Son of David have mercy’; we are affirming our faith that Jesus is the Passover Lamb. Let us join in praise and petition to Him:
