Hello,
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” Mark 1:11 NLT
God’s own son opted to yield publicly to God’s authority by being baptised. He could have just begun his ministry and used His status and heavenly position to do what was to be done. But he yielded to God.
And for that, God was joyful. It’s almost like hearing that God blessed Him (Jesus), because He was good. But it isn’t. Because God was joyful because He (Jesus) IS God. And his first act of public ministry was to place first things first.
When Jesus made that choice, the heavens opened and the voice of God was clearly heard. By all who were gathered there. A voice of judgement. And the judgement was clear and final. God was pleased.
What a lesson for each of us today! To place God at the forefront of all we do. In these times, it may well be a very wise act, though fraught with danger.
What does it mean for us to please God today? To place God first in all we do? To submit ourselves to God? For some, it is hard and a very clear act of sacrifice. For others it’s almost as natural as breathing, as life is already about yielding to God. For all, it is stepping outside of our own desires and giving the Holy Spirit the opportunity to shape our souls.
The heavens might not open, but I dream of God’s voice confirming that my life is pleasing. And so I yield (sometimes with a grumble) wholly and totally to God’s plan and purpose. It’s a daily yield. And even in the course of the day, I have to choose God time and again.
God first. Only God.
Thanks for joining us in this Divine feast.
