Nougat 3

At this time of the year, there are so many branches scattered around. For the most part, they are dead with no hope of revival. At the same time, in the tropics there are trees that give support to other plants. Bear this in mind as we reflect on today’s Holy Nougat

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I guess for most if not all of us, the preference of habitat would be the living tree. A dead branch is of little value beyond firewood. It is often easily tossed around from point to point, with no clear direction in sight.

Yet, the parasites, such as orchids, are fixed on the host plant, receiving nourishment as it continues to live on the host. In such situations, the host tree is usually healthy and is capable of providing nutrients and support. This is how we ought to be.

Christ desires that we should be so fixed in Him that we look to Him, not others, to meet our every need. I know, it may feel formidable initially, but the burden of worry no longer has to be ours. We can genuinely give it up, allowing our host to take control.

When we remain (or abide), we have no intention of relocating. So we get comfortable enough, putting in roots and fixing them securely so as not to be disturbed. How fixed are our roots in Christ just now? Are we confident in Him and making ourselves comfortable with Hin? Have we rescinded our exit strategy, knowing that we are rooted for Life?

Are we abiding (remaining) in Jesus?
