Having gotten her prayer request, what was Hannah’s response? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat™️

‭1 Samuel 1:21-22 NIV‬

[21] When her husband Elkanah went up with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the Lord and to fulfill his vow,

[22] Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, “After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the Lord, and he will live there always.”

The Power and Place of Prayer

Savour the Moment

Of course, Hannah’s decision to wean her child does not apply for every prayer. So let’s establish from the onset that this reflection is not encouragement for us to renege on our covenant with God. Nor is it an invitation to keep God waiting.

From a practical standpoint, Eli did not necessarily have a wet nurse in the temple. Hence, it was expedient for Hannah to ensure that the child was fairly independent before sending him to live permanently with Eli. Plus, she probably wished to enjoy the experience of mothering Samuel for a while. Her action reminds us that the desires of our hearts may be fleeting-

May we honour our promises to God, especially those in response to our prayer requests.

May all we seek be found in Christ
