Nougat 3

It’s hard to lead a godly life according to God’s plan at times. There are several distractions and, more critically, those who we’re up against, sometimes seem greater than ourselves. Or the task itself may seem daunting. But here’s a Word from today’s Holy Nougat that might encourage us:

““Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Be & Do

Joshua was not dissuaded. But the reality of taking the helm from Moses could have been daunting. He had stood outside the Tent of meeting while Moses was there with God, not inside. So yes, he yearned for the intimacy, but he didn’t have a clear handle on it. He supported and encouraged Moses when the Children of Israel turned against Moses. He Knew who he had to contend with.

He needed courage, wisdom and direction. He might even have needed a word of confirmation that he was indeed God’s choice as Moses’ successor.

Then God showed up!

After instructing Joshua on the specifics of the task, and offering him success in every place he entered,YHWH presented the following – Be AND Do.

~ Be Strong and Very Courageous

~ Be Intentionally Obedient to The Law

~ Do Not Waver from God’s Instructions to Moses

If Joshua was compliant, God assured that he would be successful in the mission God assigned him. With those words, Joshua knew success was not in his skills, nor his prowess, nor his mentor Moses. It rested solely in God.

Having heard God’s voice for himself, it might have been easier for Joshua to go forward. He already knew that God’s promises are sure.

It might not be a new year but it was definitely a new season for Joshua. And he accomplished what he was tasked with. Well, mostly anyway.

Here we are at the beginning of a new year. Do we know our task? What is the ground God’s assigned to us? Have we discerned what those Be and Do mean in our lives? Let’s explore them in more detail over the next few days. In the meantime, I pray we are able to see God’s hand on our lives in all we seek to do.
