I caught a snippet of a DIY salt video on Facebook recently. The moment I watched it, I thought of today’s Holy Nougat™.
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Matthew 5:13 NLT
A few things struck me in the video …
- Salt is a powerful cleanser … Deodorizer, Stain and Gunk remover which
- Works on multiple surfaces
- Salt prevents residue build-up
- After the salt had fulfilled its propose, it was washed away
Moreover
- The salt though precious, had to be POURED OUT to add value to its contexts
That suggested to me that as salt, we’re called to
∆ Refresh that which we encounter: the stained, gunky, and the ‘stinky’.
∆ Adapt to the contexts in which were placed
∆ Provide opportunities for safe interactions
∆ Fulfill our purpose and return to the Maker for repurposing
∆ Be POURED OUT Vessels of Honor, ready to transform and influence …
I also noted that although there were instances where the salt was liberally poured out in each instance; some was retained in the container until a new need arose. Could the Lord be urging us to give of ourselves (and by virtue thereof to give of the Spirit of God) in such a manner that our core self is preserved for ongoing renewal and refreshing? Especially since Jesus warns that when salt loses its savor, it’s only fit for the garbage?
Hmm. Far out!
My dears, as God’s representatives, might we understand our calling as The Salt of the earth, and live that calling
accordingly.
