Sometimes, the way we respond to others has more to do with pressure from them and/or their expectations than it actually relates to our call from God. Hopefully today’s Holy Nougat will offer you a stimulus in case of…
“But they kept urging him until they shamed him into agreeing, and he finally said, “All right, send them.” So fifty men searched for three days but did not find Elijah.” 2 Kings 2:17 NLT
Look at Elisha; he KNEW that Elijah was not anywhere in the vicinity. He saw Elijah ascend, received the double portion anointing and had already proved to himself that the anointing was flowing through him.
But those around him could not believe the fact. Which is a bit strange considering the other details which they understood with absolute clarity. Those were the same people who confirmed that the mantle had been passed to Elisha; and were likely the very same ones who had known in the Spirit that Elijah would conclude his ministry on that day.
What then, was the issue? Maybe it was a faith issue – matching what they believed with what they could not see. Elisha believed, then saw; then tried in vain to get the others on board. He only authorized the search AFTER it became apparent that the other prophets were not on the same page as he was.
Did that invalidate the work and Word of God? No.
Was Elisha being disingenuous by his actions? Certainly not. He repeatedly refused the offer to search for Elijah, until he realized that they needed proof. And that was only feasible if Elisha granted them permission.
So how about you – has God blessed you with a Word or a gift that is beneficial to the wider community? It may not be immediately acknowledged or received; but we may need to stand by God’s direction and our own conviction. No need for a big to do, but definitely walking in divine purpose.
