Hello

Are you familiar with the phrase, Good friends are better than pocket money? I believe that that’s the addendum to today’s Holy Nougat

“In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.” Proverbs 23:5 NLT

Unfortunately, I have seen the effect of this phenomenon across the globe. With the preponderance of ‘scams’ which find their way to our doors one is almost tempted to become a hoarder, and to ignore the real needs which others have, as everyone is a suspect.

Moreover, wealth disappearance is not restricted to class, race, status or even spirituality. Upper and lower classes are victims of fraudsters or other agencies of financial disempowerment. And, contrary to prosperity preaching, Christians can be bereft of money and other sources of wealth also. The more critical issue then is how we view wealth; and by virtue thereof, our response to the disappearance of material wealth.

If wealth is the abundant availability of possessions, money or belongings; then viewing wealth as only money or assets is limiting. Especially when we believe that wealth is intended solely to be personal (not to be shared). For then, one might be inclined to view persons as property or only in response to their ‘value’ … ie, what can I get from them. When wealth disappears, we may succumb to extreme depression as even our sense of identity was tied to the wealth.

If however we are able to see wealth in more social terms, where financial prosperity is a tool to generate growth for us (not only one); it is likelier that we can see the treasure inherent in each person and seek to unearth the treasure (in clay pots).

When we lose our fixed assets; we know that material gains do not define us and our true wealth lies in other treasure – whether or not they can rescue us.

There is a greater wealth however, which never disappoints us or disappears. And that is the love of God. It is life-giving, constant, yet ever-expanding and looks beyond our mistakes and sees our purpose. It returns to rescue us from the devourer and even ourselves time after time. And until death; Love forgives, believing in us whether or not others appreciate our value.

Now that is wealth that we should all claim! For it is readily available to everyone. God’s Love even died for us and still believes in each of us and rose from the dead for us. God’s Love for us never dies – now that’s wealth that lasts!

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
