Forgive me please, I overslept.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™

- I don’t get it. How is it that Thomas, one of The Twelve, a member of Jesus’s own personal team had doubts about the Resurrection. I mean, Jesus told them about this, albeit in parables; and the other 10 had seen Him, so … so what?! He really should have more faith than that. Like geez
– I hear you. But let’s get real now, how easy is it for us to have Faith in someone, whom we feel has let us down? Not so easy, is it.
- Well yes, but that’s Jesus! The Messiah! At this point, Thomas should have been traveling with him and been intimately connected for about TWO YEARS. What with those miracles and such, really? C’mon. Thomas really should have given Jesus more credit. It’s not as if he wasn’t around for the resurrection of Jairus’ daughter, or he hasn’t witnessed what happened with Lazarus…
– Okay, okay. You have a point there; but remember that until Jesus rose from the dead, no one, and I mean NO BODY had really raised themselves up from the grave, unless you count those saints who rose on Crucifixion Day. And honestly, I’m not certain that the others were convinced by what Mary told them. It’s just that they were present when Jesus came.
- You could have a point there. But still –
– Now hang on a resurrection minute before you continue to slaughter Thomas. What about you? How often have you undergone crises of Faith AFTER you’d personally experienced the awesome power of Jesus in your life? I’m not talking about a Thomas crisis now – I’m referring to honest-to-goodness Elijah proportioned crisis, that bubbles up after God has come through for you in a really miraculous way?! Remember when you …
* Alright, alright. No need to get all up in my face like that. I just had a moment. And when the power of God convicted me, I repented. I even went on to give my praise report at church.
– And that’s different from Thomas, how? You do realize that when Jesus reappeared later and confronted him, Thomas confessed his sin, with a simple proclamation “My Lord and my God!” [v.28]
Sometimes, that’s all it takes. Our willingness to recognize God’s sovereignty over our lives even in the face of our unbelief. Thomas went on to testify of Jesus after Pentecost and the Mar Thoma Church in India is said to be birthed on the basis of his testimony. How about that?
- I guess I didn’t think about it that way. Hmm. Sometimes we get all het up about the disciples unbelief, but we can’t see our own lives. Wow.
Thank You Jesus for extending grace to Thomas, so I am assured that my moments of unbelief may also be forgiven.
I believe dear Lord, help Thou my unbelief!
