How do we deal with sin, especially unconfessed sin, or those which keep running over and over and over again? Something to chew on as we imbibe today’s Holy Nougat™
So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. Matthew 18:8 NLT
Can you imagine how many one-handed, one-eyed, no-tongued persons would be walking around if this were to be Law rather than Grace? For, if God chose amputation on earth for every sin we committed, we’d be blind, brain-dead, deaf and limbless.
What other option then is there for us in response to God’s grace? Could it be that God was not contending for us to lose our limbs, rather it was that God desires that we think twice before we consider yielding to temptation? For, what we are presented with is not just arbitrary sinfulness, more so, it seems to reference “besetting”, that is, repeat sins. You know the kind of sin that were it punishable by law, the police would have called us repeat offenders and would not even think about having any mercy.
Might I invite us to consider handing our issues over to God, in particular that which is at the root of our problem, so that instead of us becoming slaves to our passions, we find liberty in Christ. Furthermore, let us make every effort to be honest with ourselves so that we would admit when we have severe temptations which threaten our ability to walk holy. We might also consider finding an accountability partner, someone with whom we are able to speak candidly about our sins, especially to the point where we are able to overcome.
Praying that our lives will reflect God’s glory today and always.
