Hello
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17 NRSV
So if Christ is the forerunner for all things, does that mean he already knows the details about our life? The nitty gritty details that we’d rather keep hidden? And if that is the case, should we be hiding our deeds from God or others?
More critically, we have the assurance that Christ holds all the matching and mismatched pieces of our individual and collective lives together. Not only holds them, but also KNOWS how they can be a cohesive whole.
Easy to say, but not always easily believed. Especially when the promise is slightly distorted in our minds – The Word says all things work together FOR good; not that all life is good (or easy) for those who love God and are the called.
Not easy to hear when it feels like we are floundering; uncertain of our next move and Jesus seems to be silent (since you hold present, past and future, please gimme a glimpse of the future Lord. Better yet, just make the decision for me please Jesus). No, really not easy to hear when Jesus seems silent and other voices are shouting at us, offering their version of ‘good advice’.
But if we accept/believe that Jesus has all details of our story, and in Him all is held together; we can approach Him to help us, to guide us as we live this narrative called our life. For Jesus is not necessarily silent, it’s just that sometimes we are not listening. (Especially when it’s through the still small voice; or through our conscience). And that’s when/where waiting on Jesus comes in.
Just as hard, far more beneficial.
Could this be a call to be still in God’s presence?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
