Hi
There is nothing like needing help and being left in the lurch. Unless it is getting the help, and not recognizing it. So, we DO know the Source of our help right? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“My help comes from ADONAI, Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:2 TLV.
Needing help from God or others requires that we recognize that we have a problem and then to actually seek help. Of course; in the name of independence many of us avoid seeking help (cause we don’t want to be beholden to anyone; but we’re already beholden to God!!!). Now if what we’re tasked with is at our level of difficulty; fine. Carry on we must. But when we are out of our league, it’s actually wiser to cry out to God our Helper.
The joy of God being our Helper is that, as our Creator, God knows us us well enough to know what we need help with and the kind of help we truly need. And, as the Creator of Heaven and earth, even what we think was our own creation is still traceable back to God, our expert resident Creator.
A very interesting point to note is that the ‘help’ God offers is the same root as that used in 1 Samuel 7:12 after God rescues the Israelites (yet again); and Samuel sets up the memorial stone that it was God Who delivered them. The stone would have been large enough to be visible at all times. It is worth noting however, that prior to being assisted the people were instructed to remove the false gods and worship God alone.
I do believe that as we turn to God, our El Ezer, we may need to check ourselves – what gods are we holding on to that prevents us from getting The Help we need? Pride, Self-control, Self-pity, Deceit, Jealousy … are but a few to be considered. If any of those are at play, recognizing and receiving God’s help might be a little more difficult than needed. Sometimes it’s not that God has refused to help, it’s us who’ve placed the blocks by turning to our idols.
Are we needing help? Do we know Where the best help is to be found? Are we open to receive what God has to offer? Are we ready to look only to Adonai?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
