Hi

It’s very rare for someone to confess that they are comfortable with playing second-fiddle to another. For it means that we have deliberately set our ambitions to be less visible than the other. In a world where dominion is highly celebrated, playing second fiddle could be considered as volunteering for abuse, and it may well be. But not in God’s plan for our lives. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“He was not the light, but he came to bear witness concerning the light.” John 1:8 TLV

The ‘He’ referenced here refers to John, the Baptizer.

In Luke 1, John’s story is narrated – he was called to be a Nazarite (special vows and actions). We’re told that John knew from the onset that his role was supporting actor to the Star, Jesus Christ, come what may. Aware of the prophecy over his life, John fulfilled his role with as much passion as if he were purposed to be the Christ. Not only did he accept that, but he also proclaimed it without grumbling (c.f. St John 1:27). That takes a lot of spiritual and emotional maturity.

With that prophecy over his life, John could have opted for mediocrity. Few wish to give of our best when we know our efforts will not result in a promotion or even recognition of our efforts. But he did, fulfilling his purpose even to the point of imprisonment and death! Are we up for the challenge?

Will we accept being second fiddle to Jesus, yet give of our best? We are each purposed to Point to the Light, Jesus Christ, using the gifts and skills we’ve been blessed with. And whether we’re preacher, teacher, dressmaker, chef, lawyer, cleaner, doctor, nurse, baker or business owner; we can use our skill sets for God’s glory. Especially now during this Covid-19 season, God deserves our best. No room for lackluster performance or diva attitudes.

As we bear witness to God’s Light; may others receive the warmth from our heartfelt attention to our responsibility, and seek to do likewise. May we find blessings in fulfilling God’s mandates.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
