Have you ever harboued questions about Jesus’ divinity? If so, today’s Holy Nougat™️ is for you.

“This fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah concerning him: “Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As I read those words I knew I had read them elsewhere in Matthew’s Gospel. My thought was confirmed as fact, thanks to Google, as it was part of Matthew’s recall of Jesus‘ baptism. I had already double checked the prophecy and it was also confirmed to be the first verse in Isaiah 42. Some of you may wonder why all this research, but there is a premise among theological scholars that the quoting of the first line/verse implies quotation of the entire text.

Thus, the theophany moment of Jesus’ baptism was very significant. For, at the very least, with the Trinity present when God’s Ruach uttered those words, the entire universe understood the threat to the satanic realm. This was the second Adam, the Chosen One for humanity’s redemption! Moreover, in that moment God’s Spirit was visibly resting upon the One Who would proclaim Justice to the nations! There was no doubt about the meaning of the that moment – I suspect even the Teachers of the Law felt their world shake.

God didn’t need to make the declaration about Jesus. The declaration was for our benefit. To assure us that God’s promises are true, and they will come to pass, even those that are personal to us. Also, it affirmed Jesus as deity, while revealing His purpose. Just as Jesus did in Luke 4, when He quoted from Isaiah 61. So make no bones about my dears, Jesus is the Christ then, now, and for all times. Of this I am certain.

May all we seek be found in Christ
