Nougat 14

Today’s Holy Nougat opens the way for reflecting on communication with God.

“Then Job replied to the Lord:” ‭‭Job‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Initially, when Antonette shared this nougat I kept expanding to include verse 2, and then it registered. Did you notice? Yups. It is about Job speaking to God. Job didn’t die. And we won’t either. Because we recognize that God’s the initiator of the dialogue. (Basic communication process suggests, message crafted – message sent- message interpreted -feedback would suggest that God initiated the conversation). Regardless of the communication process, we KNOW that the wider story has a more profound conversation.

Remember, the book Job invites reflection about theodicy (understanding God’s presence in crisis and catastrophe). Job remained resolute in his faith, endured ‘friendly’ judgement of his peers and had his moments when he wanted to throw in the towel, but prevailed.

When God spoke, it involved a reprimand for the friends and praise for Job. God knew all that was happening and chose to communicate with humans. Even when a full explanation of God’s Why was not given.

It’s under that context that Job spoke directly to God. Though we’ve been given direct access at all times and in all life’s seasons, we have a similar offer. How will we respond to all the messages God continues to send out to us?
