Hey
In Jamaica we talk about ‘spirit tek’; ie we accept or reject overtures of friendship based on our sixth sense or the indescribable sense of preservation in the person‘s presence (because our spirits align). Mind you, I used to observe the non-meshing being described in that way; and in a weird logic; these grannies were usually right about the person. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to revisit spirit tek in a slightly different way – between us and God
“For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” Romans 8:16 NLT
So there is something to that spirit tek eh. For God’s Spirit (of Truth and Redemption) aligns or meshes with our own to remind us about Who and Whose we are. In terms of The Who; it is helpful to look at the nots ie – We are NOT
# outsiders
# orphans
# rejects
# forgotten
nor are we
# lost causes in God’s salvific plan.
We were and still ARE
# planned for
# chosen
# blessed
# heirs and
# anointed children of God!
Some of us just need to walk in it now. To discard the irrelevant and untrue descriptors bandied about us by the evil one; so we can accept the real deal!
In terms of our ‘Whoseness’, we are God’s – bought and paid for with Christ’s death; no matter our past or present.
Wrested away from a fake inheritance, we revert to our created likeness of God, by the Spirit of God. That meshing redeems is whenever we’re ready and in that moment, we claim our Whoseness!
Now that’s a good ’Spirit tek’; God’s Spirit connecting with ours to affirm our identity, our Whoseness in Christ!
So perhaps the grannies were hoping to see God’s Spirit shining through the folks whom their spirit didn’t take. Or maybe they were prejudiced. But when the Spirit of God, tells us the Truth of Who we are, it’s time to listen. And move Spirit tek to its rightful purpose.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
