As the General Secretary addressed the 250-strong delegation,it was interesting to see how similar yet different we humans are. Several issues were brought to the fore, but one comment in his address invited further rumination.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. Jonah 1:4 NLT
When the GS reminded us that we are all stewards of God’s creation, that was simple enough. And then he spoke on pollution, climate change and our environmental footprints. Our travel across the world impacts our sisters and brothers in Tuvalu whose islands are slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
When what we do affects everyone else, it has a profound impact on how we operate. Unaware, oblivious or uncaring of that reality, Jonah opts for running away to Tarshish instead of going to Nineveh. His disobedience almost cost 9 persons’ lives! Yes, nine persons.
The British referendum on their status with the EU, the outcome of the trial for the killer of Treyvon Jones, the person who takes advantage of our friendship … They each have implications beyond the obvious.
Now, when we opt for nonchalance or disobedience, who rescues those who are drowning? “What is joke to you is death for me”, yes.
Lord help us to look beyond our own circumstances as we make decisions. Help us to be more intentionally our brothers and sisters’ keepers. Hear and heal we pray Lord Jesus, amen.
In Christ
