Here’s today’s Holy Nougat ……
Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to release You, and power to crucify You?” Jesus answered, “You would have no power at all over Me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.” John 19:10-11
When we compare this nougat with Matthew 16, Matthew 28 and Acts1and 2, it is not hard to find that Pilate had a a skewed view of power.
He equated his authority with power. But power of which Pilate spake, can only be effected through the impact of the Holy Spirit.
It is interesting to note that Pilate neither possessed the brute force nor the authority to effect Jesus’ release or crucifixion. Unfortunately, the authority vested in Pilate by Rome led to his assumption about his role in God’s redemption plan.
Now for our own reflection
Where do we derive our power and authority from?
How do we balance our spiritual life with our daily routine?
When have we confused our roles?
Has divine intervention resulted in a transformation of someone’s perceived power for our benefit?
