Hello
Today’s Holy Nougat
might be a challenge for many of us. Chew slowly
“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,”. Matthew 20:26 NLT
That servant thing. No good leader wants to serve; especially with the liberties taken of those who serve. Not to mention the disrespect which is likely to accompany the leader who willingly debases themselves as part of their leadership. Or is it truly so?
A leader I know insists that followers be asked to do nothing that the leader isn’t willing to do. And the followers have not lost a shred of respect. Another leader had missed the mark, making the assumption that nepotism was in their favor. It was – the parent offered a free janitorial position, while hiring staff in more superior positions; despite the child’s paper qualifications. That move earned the parent greater respect from staff and the child finally grasped the importance of humility.
With all that being said, it is still a challenge for me to yield myself when I’m convinced that some task is beneath me. That helps no one; not even the ego I’m trying to feed. And, often I lose out on the opportunity to make friends or strengthen relationships. When leadership is coupled with humility, we epitomize Christ, and open the door to share him with others who truly need him. Service also reveals our hearts.
Is it time to check out service to those we would lead?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
