There are times when despite our best efforts, we find ourselves needing a bit more than our daily bread. It may even seem that God has forgotten us completely. In those moments; it’s time to press forward in prayer; which is exactly what today’s Holy Nougat recommends
“Then Yeshua told them a parable to show that they should always pray and not be discouraged,” Luke 18:1 TLV
Ultimately, I would say pressing forward with prayer is a bit like getting a stain out of a precious outfit. We soak, use salt, or flour, maybe alcohol or bleach depending on the nature of the stain and the quality of the material. We try regular soap and water; but when that doesn’t work we try those different formulae, sometimes even asking advice from others. Likewise, there are times when we hafta press through with our prayer. Not because we are more anointed than others; definitely not because we are better intercessors; but because we know how much the petition matters.
I guess our first task today then is to determine what is discouraging or pulling us down. Do we struggle with such right now – where others would have us believe Their reality over God’s promises? If yes, hold that thought. In fact, write it in a visible space where you will remember to water it.
Then, since we are believing God’s promises; let’s identify Which promise it is in which we are putting our trust. You know, like when we remind God that David declared that he’s never seen God’s righteous forsaken or the children of the righteous begging. If we qualify as God’s righteous, then we know that when the going gets tough, it IS time to call on Jesus. As often as needed.
I can’t forget going to that service in Harbour View Jamaica, when the guest preacher told us to press forward with prayer. And his premise came from God’s promise to those who consistently tithe. I hear his voice now … Lord, I am a sower and a tither, and You promised that when we bring the offering to the storehouse, You WILL pour out a blessing … He knew that God isn’t in the business of owing us, so he asked.
He also reminded us of the promise that we overcome by the Blood of Jesus and the testimonies of the saints (that’s in Revelation 12:11). We know that Jesus died for each of us; so it’s more about recognizing the potency of the Name and the Blood shed when we pray. Also, we have the right to remind God of breakthroughs others experienced and invite divine intervention for ours. Again, this requires relationship and familiarity with the testimonies.
Above all, we water our situation with the Word and with prayer, believing that God keeps promises and faithfully rewards those who diligently seek God’s mercy.
Today I urge us to press, and not get weary; God is still in the business of doing the impossible.
