Hi
There was a Jamaican song which spoke about the dangers of being greedy. It outlined the pitfalls and discouraged others from befriending someone who was a ‘wanga gut’. Take my word for it, no one wishes to be called such. Today’s Holy Nougat addresses a little more than that in relation to our relationship with God.
“Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs.” John 6:26 NLT
Unfortunately, this remains true even today. Many of us are preoccupied with what we can get from God rather than a relationship. This superficiality is costly as we run the risk of forfeiting the joy of intimacy with God, which for those of us who are ‘materially minded’ also means forfeiting access to the miraculous.
What then, would a relationship with God offer?
A deeper more abiding sense of God’s Love which fosters an awareness of others in need – physically, emotionally and spiritually
The increased ability to ‘abide’ in God’s presence (feasting at the table, surrounded by God’s glory)
Communion with God (far reaching intimacy which gains more than the average insight on the character of God)
Friendship with God
The increased intimacy will also reflect on our character; enhancing the Fruit of the Spirit within and the manifestation without.
Moreover, we may also find favor with others – in authority (not only the powerful) as well as in the marketplace.
Of course, our trials, persecution and opposition may also increase; BUT the depth of relationship affords our willingness to persevere and overcome! With the added perk of Peace THROUGH the storm, we find that withstand rather than panic. In fact we may see the storm as the opportunity to strengthen our faith rather than punishment.
Fish and bread is good; manna is okay; but the joy of loving and knowing that we’re Loved by God – Absolutely Divine!
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
