Top of the day to ya. For those of you who received 2 nougats, I’m sorry. Blame impatience and panic. And King Saul could tell me how dangerous that is.
Here’s today’s nougat.
Your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Luke 11.2b
Usually the limit of a monarchy determines how much attention is given to the ruler’s wishes. So, Jamaica was no longer bound by the dictates of Spain after 1655, when we officially became British. And, even some of the officials were displaced so that the leadership of the new monarch could be invested.
When we pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”, we are declaring that God’s reign extends beyond the visible; and from the supernatural into our ordinary world. It means that we are not only declaring ‘ heaven is your throne; the earth your footstoll’; but that we are insisting that here on earth, we are really seeking to pattern the divine order. God is not distant or deposed, God is active.
It means that miracles would not be such a great surprise anymore, because we recognize this as part of the natural divine order. It means that while we yield to Cesar, our ultimate allegiance is to God.
It means that we willingly place God 1st; before jobs, households, friendships, politics, or even families.
Regardless of what we physically pray, have we been guilty of deleting this piece of the prayer in our actions?
