Nougat 19

Aside from being a lamp and light, God’s Word is a precious companion. David does not describe it in exactly those words, nor does Today’s Holy Nougat. What do you think?

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A Constant Companion

A companion journeys with us, and provides advice, accountability, amusement and emotional support. Before examining this Nicqi definition in light of our Nougat, it may be worth asking ourselves, whether we are good companions. Do we go there journey with others, and how do we support them. If our companionship needs work, then let’s allow God’s Spirit to help us improve.

The Word of God, Scripture, is an essential companion for us believers on the journey. It reminds us that we’re never alone, it brightens our hearts, when applied to particular situations, Scripture reproves, encourages and affirms us as needed. Paul tells his protégé Timothy that all Scripture is God-inspired; and is helpful for doctrine, reproof, correction, and righteousness awareness.

In the season of temptation in the Wilderness, the enemy of our souls attempted to trick Jesus by taking the Word out of context. What the enemy had forgotten was that as the Word incarnate, Jesus understood the nuances and inflection of Scripture and was thus capable of using it in correct context to refute the enemy’s arguments.

As the new leader of the Children of Israel, Joshua needed to have God’s Word as his constant companion. It carried the blueprint for safe travels through the final stretch of the Wilderness journey into the Land of Promise. Not in the literal sense of course. But in learning to obey God’s written Laws, it was easier to trust and obey God’s spoken word. By hiding God’s Word in his heart, Joshua was also developing his intimacy with God.

Interestingly, Jesus told His disciples that when faced with the imperial systems of this world they would open their mouths and Jesus would put words in. Joshua was told, ensure that the Word never leaves you!! That was his secret weapon; he never went any where without God’s Word.

How about us, is God’s Word our companion, and is it a constant companion?
