Have you ever relied on someone who was intentionally late? If you’re like me; that’s it. But what about when delay is danger, and the One we wait on is God? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“he stayed where he was for the next two days. Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”” John 11:6-7 NLT
So Lazarus was sick unto dying when his sisters sent for Jesus. He was their last hope; perhaps their only hope. It’s likely that Lazarus was already dead by the time Jesus actually got the news. We don’t know all the details but Jesus went elsewhere and spent two days there rather than rush to Lazarus’ bedside. And when Jesus finally got to Lazarus, Lazarus was beyond saving. Decomposition was already in train.
Have you been there before – caught in a space between death and resurrection – with not a word or action from God? When life situations have gone past ‘life support’ into decomposition and still no Jesus? It’s rough going. Seriously
The good news is, it is especially in those moments that God is at work behind the scenes preparing to intervene in ways we cannot begin to imagine. And that’s the weird bit; for we don’t usually know exactly what God will do. In fact, we have one consolation – for the ones who love the Lord; it is already well, even in the Valley.
I guess that requires a shift in how we look at those unbelievably hard (painful, devastating) seasons. Rather than focusing on the treacherous journey or God’s apparent silence; we choose to hold steadfastly to the knowledge that even in silence, God’s in control. We pray and praise, taking comfort in the knowledge that even ‘two days later’, we’re still in God’s plan.
