It’s Intentional

Yesterday, we pondered the merit of location and I didn’t emphasize that it was also in reference to fasting. For some of us do find ourselves outside of God’s Timing and Location, and wonder why the blessings didn’t manifest.

That is not necessarily why we yield to temptation during a fast. It is connected, but not necessarily the same.

As believers in Jesus Christ, accepting Jesus’ Lordship is paramount. This applies to all situations and seasons, not only those we consider ‘spiritual’. Life is spiritual, and the enemy of our souls knows this. Hence, when we switch allegiance to Jesus we’re automatically targets for our enemy. How much more so when w dedicate special time to be in Jesus’ presence?

It is intentional siblings, not coincidental.

Not even Jesus escaped that reality. And unlike Jesus Who knew no sin of His own, we’ve already established patterns of sin. I believe that this is what the enemy uses against us. Our established patterns offer the perfect backdrop for temptation. This isn’t always the case, for Jesus has no pattern.

We notice that the attack on Jesus was multipurpose – His credibility (if You are); His physiological cravings (turn these stones) as well as His capacity (to accomplish the task). I believe that we could easily presume that those are legitimate causes to defend, and just like that we get distracted from our focus on God’s Plan. Ironically, the temptation may occur when we’re in the right place at the right time. Whether or not it is, we know that the devil is intentional in attack, even when being subtle.

How do we respond? That’s the subject of another reflection. For now, let’s be aware that distractions when fasting are often intentional attacks by the enemy of our souls.
